dwaynE says goodbye to tassie!!!

well as most of you know i've moved. shipped off to the new sunshine state...
wa is treating me well... the drive accross was good, but not going to be attempted ever again i don't think... unless i have a car worth briging home in the future if i return...
here is some pics and stuff of my trip across... and some stuff too...
hey guys....
got my laptop... found an internet cafe close to home... and here i am...
also, here are a couple of pictures from the journey across...
what an eye opener...
did the trip in 4 days...
day one was melbourne to adelaide which was about 750kms
day two was adelaide to ceduna which was another 700kms or so
day three was ceduna to norseman which was 1200kms
day four was noresman to kalgoolie for a look then perth which was about another 700kms
too much driving thats for sure.
highlights of the trip would be... umm... there's gotta be one...
ohh, yeah... the 90 mile straight... and the lack of corners once i'd gone past ceduna... i was so bored... cruising along on straights that went for 20 40 80 146 kms without seeing a corner was so boring...
only saw one living roo on the whole trip who decided a suicide attempt was in order but miss timed it and got out too far infront of me... and one emu, strange thing, standing on the edge of the highway watching the cars go by...
but that was the entire sum of living wildlife i saw... lots of wilddead but not much wildlife...
anyway here are a couple of pictures of the ute and me in a few across the journey...
this is how i packed it all in... wow... lotsa crap...

the ute on the jet rocket VN... about the last time it was fully bug free!

at the first stopover... the caravan park in adelaide

an awefully big, big thing... a gallah... my word it was ugly

the eastern most end of the most boring place on earth

another really ugly big thing... and me

the second most boring place on earth... a novelty driving in a straight line for this long... but she ain't no 500kmh straight either... the roads pretty rough, in spots 120 was not comfortable at all

now, the ute started getting real dirty... a few 30km stretch of gravel where they were doing roadworks made the B&S side of her start popping out

building... building... building... it didn't seem to end!!!

so far things are going pretty good
i'm happy cause now my toolbox has arrived, its all safe and no damage. so i have tgools... work is going pretty well... bit different to where i used to work but thats no problem...
finally settled right in at home. got all my stuff unpacked... built all the bloody flat pack s**t furniture i had to buy... that was a nightmare but my rooms looking livable now!!!
living with jill... i don't know her, but thats no problem... living in victoria park, seems pretty close to osbourne park where i work although on almost opposite sides of the city... i have good freeway access and it only takes about 20 minutes to get to work... 35 on a busy day so i can handle that
cooking, cleaning, looking after myself is taking some getting used to!!! but thas all good... have cooked myself some nice meals but made some doozeys too... hahaha!!!
so yeah thats about it... i had a great trip over... and am having a great time in WA... its a beautiful city Perth... i'm really liking it... and the weather is sensational!!! wow, hot!!! brilliant stuff i love it... and its not even the peak of summer yet!!!
i'd just likie to thank the guys/girls who came to my party hey... i had a great time and it was a good sendoff for me. i had a ball.
also thanks to everyone involved in this club... it was good spending the time with everyone over the last couple of years... have got some good memories of my time with everyone. lots of good times had thats for sure.
would like to wish the club, its management, and the members all the best for the future. i'm sure i'll be seeing and hearing things about the tascommodores club for a long time to come...
you'll be seeing and hearing from me too. i'm not going to dissapear totally, so don't delete my membership!!!! afterall, i am member number 2 so i wanna keep that number, even if i'm just a member by correspondance now!!! haha.
anyway, thats me, i'm out, see ya's round if i ever pop back home... tassie will always be home i think. -
who wants to come for a ride???
Posted 17 Nov 2005
i need a shot-gun
i have organised a proutes cruise in tasmania finally and i have no passanger for the day.
what do you get for the day???
a ride in my ute (like YAY) and a trip to the latrobe go-kart track where you'll spend some cash and go for a race.
then a ride into devonport for some food on the bluff at one of the many bbq sites...
then a ride home to launceston.
if anybody is free on the 19th from about 11am till sometime in the night shoot us a pm and i'll see if i want you in my car.
if you live in launceston it'd be a hell advantage. -
great vid...

ohk... its got nothing to do with cars at all...
unless you take a wierd twisted view at it it could be remotely car related.
but anyway, i found this vid on some obscure site and thought you guys would be interested.
its a little kid. he's 12. and he plays the drums better than any person i have ever seen in my entire life. this kid sounds like he has 8 arms and 4 legs... double kicking speed is unreal!!!
but anyway. the vid is 8 minutes long so maybe dial uppers will lack the patience to get this but anyway...

dwaynE's dead ute again
Posted 1 Aug 2005
ohk... on thursday last week i finally got the ute back on the road after a broken starter motor had to be bashed with the wheel brace one too many times...
after the starter motor had stopped and had me stuck in town three times in a week i gave up hitting it to make it go again and got a new one. it was a bosch one and i got it from Ingrams for about $115 which i thought was pretty cheap.
ohk... so that was fun to put in and the steering rack got in the way something shocking but we managed.
so guess what broke on Sunday... just 3 days after getting it driveable again... yehp thats right - the steering rack failed.
here's the goss...
driving home sunday afternoon and going through a left hand bend when i heard a gentle pop/thud/bang type noise and the steering wheel just snapped out of my hand... all of a sudden we'd switched to "armstrong" steering and it was manual steering from then on...
i was about 300m from home so i didn't really think to stop and check it out but the awesome blazing trail of oil coming out the back made me think i'd blown a power steer hose off or something... the pump going WHIIIIIRRRR as it ran out of oil soon confirmed that the steering had lost all its fluid and into the shed i went...
here's what happened next:
ohk... so the first picture... if your car does this when you go up the driveway and turn the corner its time for a look see to check out whats died....

next up i pulled onto the hoist in our shed and went up to make this job SOOO much easier... haha

here's what i found... it seemed that a seal in the rack must have blown up and the oil building up in the rack boot soon blew that off, but then somehow it got sucked into the rack and stuck

so thats the damage... or whatever it could be called - failure.
here's how to get it out - or how i got it out anyway!!!
first step is to get the car up in the air... nice and high on a set of good jackstands will be fine, but its easier for illustrations if i use the hoist...
next you have to remove both right and left front wheels

turn the steering full lock left and you'll see the steering rack tie rod end... remove the split pin and losen the 19mm castle nut that holds the tie rod in... TIP: leave the nut on a few threads for the next step

next up, once you have your nut lose give the top of it a couple of gentle taps with a hammer - don't go sick cause you won't need to at this stage... the next bit you have to hit you can go mad on (or use a ball joint seperator or a puller). But anyway, if you hit nice and hard where the arrow is this will distort the tapered seat just a little and after a few hits the tie rod end should drop down, now remove your tie rod nut and repeat on the passanger side....

looking under the car, this is sort of what you should see... hopefully you haven't got oil sprayed everywhere mixed in with dirt

now you need to remove the 13mm nut and bolt that hold your steering column on... this will be pretty tight on the shaft so some CRC to help free it up and a few gentle taps with a hammer or a bit of leverage should get it off

the fun bit is next!!!
you need to remove the two lines that connect into the front... they are 16 and 18mm i think (stupid holden sizes!!!!). .. do the top one first as that will make removal of the bottom one easier
