Would it be a metal bonnet or a fibreglass one?

get yourself a second hand metal BA bonnet and have the outer skin grafted onto your metal VS bonnet...
its the only way to go, will look much neater...

any decent body shop would be keen to have a go at it... but it'll be hard to quote on... so be prepared to pay a lot of coin to have it done...

That Highway Smash Repairs place would be keen to have a crack I reckon. All the import fiends down south rate them and I've seen their work on a mate's Cefiro. All metal heavily flared guards. Good effort.

iv seen the fibreglass bulges advertised, i spoke to a guy about getting it done on my old vs awhile ago now, the amount of work involved could caused it to become a little pricey as he explained to me it had to be fibreglassed in then smoothed out.

im sure most bodyworks will be willing to give it ago, but be sure to get a pretty firm quote

as said above Highway Smash repaires will be pretty reasonable, iv heard of people happy with there work...

I can definatley recommend to see Paul @ Wells Bodyworks in campbell street, they have some machine which makes it easy to do that sort of thing. I've seen about half a dozen VZ monaro bonnet conversions on VY/VZ bonnets they've done with using the outher skin and welding it to the original bonnet and they look factory, so an XR8 bonnet should be straight foward.

They did all the custom plastic welding on my ute and spray painting, came up really good. They also did the VZ monaro bonnet and (flares, warranty job) on thy old boys Coupe'4, looks great.

If you have any probs they're happy to help to. About a year after they did the work on mine a small bubble formed on the front bar and they re-sprayed it for me at no charge.

Cheers,

Trent.

Keep in mind that if you get a fiberglass bonnet you should definitely fit bonnet pins - so if you dont like the look of bonnet pins, metal might be the way to go ;)
