Just sent this via email....
I do not know what kind of stunt you are trying to pull Jamie, but it is not funny. If the threat to close down the track is a scare tactic in an amateur/childish attempt to get more racers and spectators to attend meeting then I am afraid it pisses me and dad off to a large degree. This kind of tactic may work in the primary school ground, but for adults, well, no it does not.
Dad and I have been working flat out to get his BMW turbocharged and my coupe filled with a full chrome-moly chassis. The aim was to be back for the new season. I now have to ask what the point is. I think I will hang up the tig welder and now take my time. There is no point being in a hurry is there? Instead I am tempted to slowly finish the coupe and go club circuit racing - at least they will be running events. Dad will do the same. We will not lose out because we will still be racing in some form or another. The dragway on the otherhand.....this is what threats like this do!
So if you are serious about not running events, sell the track - I think Dion Wilson was seriously interested. I could think of a couple of others, or a co-op too.
You have not been given a shortage of suggestions on how to promote the track. But in case you have forgotten, here are a few:
- update the website regularly! We had a fantastic finish to last season in super sedan, but who would have known? The meeting report section was updated twice last season. Not good enough. How do the public or the racers find out what is happening when the site is neglected?
- some ideas from country websites
http://www.townsvill...ay.com/news.htm (nice track...bit hairy at the deepend)
http://www.palmyradr...u/schedule.html
- Every opportunity should be taken to get the message out. Regular advertising in the North and the south, Talk back radio, print media, fax every workshop in Tas the weekend before each meeting letting them know it's on. Every chance they get should be taken. It means writing an article to put in the paper for the next week, with a pic. It means having a video clip for the Sunday nightly news.
Hell, Jamie, why are we having to tell you how to do your job! If you need ideas on how to do this, then perhaps you are not the man for the position. Perhaps you need to tell the track owner this?
End of angry rant,
Jason and Fred Lemon
