Hi guys.

Just went and slapped the 19's on the vn and they look sensational.... BUT the fronts JUST touch the strut on the inside, like theres a small bees ol fella in it, but i'm far too picky to leave it, so i'm after opinions on the best fix

1: Smaller tyres, it has 8.5" wide rims with a 245 wide tyre at the moment, not sure if a 235 tyre would fit real well
2: Spacers - Illegal aren't they? Some say yes some say no
3: Stuff the lot and pop some coil overs in, which brand are decent there?

Cheers in advance!

you could go a skinnnier tyre.. thats how my twentys fit with standard struts.. but i would just spend the extra dosh a get some coilovers... pedders are reasonably priced.. and from what ive heard no too bad..

*EDIT* we want pics!

No one makes coilovers for VB-VP off the shelf so their gonna have to be custom made jobbies. Matt (VHR32) is the man to talk to, as a matter of fact he currently has a pair of Bilstein ones he wants $1500 or so for.

I think you might get away with going the 235's
I'm sure that 8in is as wide as you can go though without coilovers
I won't repeat what everyone else is saying, you know who has them

Can you take a pic of where it hits Murph? From underneath look up towards the strut.

You can fit 8.5" on the front but depends on offset.

What offset are the rims?

Aido, Those Bilstein ones I made up for a drift VL in Melbourne ;)

235 are far from to skinny for an 8.5" rim, I've seen 215s fitted to a 9.5 " rim without any problems, hwoever that style may look a little funny on a commodore

Will do tomorrow, but basically the tyre Just touches the tube underneath the bit the spring sits on....
am unsure of the rim offset, doesn't appear to be marked on it anywhere.

Have the wheels off at the moment, so those who want pics are gonna have to wait sorry!!

I'd go with smaller tyres Murph. I went and priced a set of 20's last week for the VN and they were just using crazy-thin tyres.. Either option works though.

Here we go, Pics

The top clean mark on this pic is where it just touches

Looking up the strut

From top, not much clearence, but it don't touch

today when i put the fronts on and actually bolted them on tight, it seems to just clear, so i'm gonna throw the wheels all on, and take it for a spin.. see weather it goes okay or not
Also looks like smaller tyres are out, need to be the wider ones to get the right load rating apparently

Wheels are on, will prob still get on to coil overs, there's not alot of clearence round the fronts near the struts!

I had the same problem with my 19's when i fitted them. They just touched the upright (cleared the spring perch) so i made a set of 3mm alloy spacers up at work. Actually i made 2 sets and have a set sitting at home if you want them? Technically they're illegal, but painted black you can not see them at all. And in the unikely event you got pulled over and the mr popo noticed them, its the "they're the locating sleeves for the alloy wheels officer" story. In the even more unlikely story you had to go to court over them, you would get off on a technicality as the wheel is still able to locate on the hub (hub centric wheels) which is why the spacers are illegal rule is inplace, to ensure that wheels are located on the hub as they were designed to be.

If you're interested in the set i'll stick em in the post to you, send me a pm.

Cheers

load rating is a very valid point...
i have to run a 245 on the ute to get it to be rated high enough for the "commercial" nature of the ute and its fatness... pretty gay really but to save hassle with insurance and the law you've gotta do it i guess...

go the coil over's hey, thats the stuff...
i just put a set in the front of my ute - courtesy of VHR32 - and they're pretty tastey!!!...
he'll go to the end of the earth to make sure you get what you need!!!
