hello, im new to the forums so dont know much yet but recently bought a vl wagon. i read on here somewhere about making a vl calais front out of fibre glass. i would rather buy a proper one but dont have nearly enough money at this stage so am considering this way. i was just wondering is it easily done? is the visibility in night much worse? and is it very illegal? any other information would be handy.
thanks, harry

Never heard of anyone making their own, but of course its doable provided you have a genuine front to make a mould from.
Easier just to buy a fake one. Yes night visibility is greatly reduced, and yes they are illegal.

No mine is genuine and working.
Fake ones are $380 from FibreMaster I think. Howie will know as he has one on his VL.
Berlina and Calais fronts are a COMPLETELY different shape. It would be alot of work.

thanks for your help
Second hand genuine ones are sitting at around $700 and the price will only go up with demand. Something to keep in mind.

You can definatly pick a genuine complete working calais front for under $500, just wait around and keep on looking. I picked mine up for $200. I had to get it resprayed to match the colour of my car, but that was only $100 including paint.
As for the rear window seal, you could maybe try instant windscreens or windscreens obrien. Places like that usually tend to have that sort of stuff for if they need to replace it when they get a broken window.

pffft I didn't notice any problem with the lights and visibility at all. You lose maybe high beam a little but I seriously could not notice the difference and definately didn't see it as unsafe or notice poor visibility.........
Genuine is better by far when dealing with MEtal and suppose to be there and fibreglass and been moulded off a genuine I'd rather the real thing for sure just getting the fibreglass grille to match in was a pain in the neck!
