Here's how to install a new memcal(or chip as most people call it)into your ECU
Changes in my car

What does a performance memcal do
A memcal is an engine software calibration device, designed to optimize the performance and efficiency of most modern fuel-injected motor vehicles. They are available in a large range of different specification types able to fit different types of vehicles. The Power chip reads and enhances programs inside the vehicle’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and tunes the car’s motor to work in different way. The Power Chip can increase the performance and economy of a motor.
Taken from wikipedia

Changes in my car
I noticed a fair power increase and a hell of a lot more throttle response and the power mid rev range and mid corner has increased atleast 3 times over.also It changed the exhaust note slightly

What you need
- A memcal
You can get different types of Memcals-Factory(such as HSV/BT1) and after market(such as chip torque or the custom ones on eBay)
Mine is a custom HSV SV3800 Memcal,which I only paid $85 for.
There are a few different sorts on eBay, second hand and exchange chips
The after market ones
And second hand ones from wreckers
- Phillips head screw driver
- ¼” Socket or spanner

Firstly disconnect the positive leads on your battery.

Then proceed to remove the kick panel in the passenger side front footwell, depending on model there should be one or two screws that hold this in.

Once you have removed this panel, disconnect the plug circled in this picture, you need to remove this to gain access to a screw that holds the ECU in.only two screws hold the ecu in place.

once theyre removed siy ECU on footwell and proceed to remove the top cover by removing the two 1/4" screws that hold it on.This set up applies for VL,VN,VG,VQ,VP......VR/VS have a small acess cover on one side of the ECU you remove.

Here is the ECU with cover removed, the Memcal is the blue object
Circiled in green are the two clips that hold the memcal in place, they just simply just push away from the memcal and it can be removed by pulling the Memcal out.making sure to take notice of which way it came out so you know which way to put the new one in.

Now simply push your new Memcal in and installation is opposite of removal
When you first start your car after installing the new Memcal it may run roughly for 5-10 seconds..

Thanks for putting up this post. I've done a VL ECU before, and have posted the how-to on this site, but now I've got a VN, I now know how to do the mod on that.

Cheers!
