Well first at all... DO NOT ATTEMT TO TINKER WITH YOU BRAKES IF YOUR A CLOWN WITH NO IDEA!!!!

ok..

Now into the business end of the the thread, Had a few shocks with the brakes on the SS, hit the stop peddle and it's gone to the floor and no brakes.. so yeah, thinking rebuild time!

First of all, Get a stack of rags and cover anything that is painted up. Because I was replacing the brake lines at the calliper end I dropped them off and allowed the fluid in the lines to run through.

Un screwing the brake lines at the master cylinder, you may find them damn tight, but if you tap the end of the spanner with a small hammer (tap, no need to belt the living hell out of it) and this should jar it loose (well it did for me).

Once all the lines are off, unbolt the two bolts that hold the master cylinder to the booster and the 2 bolts that hold the bracket at the front off the master cylinder to the strut tower.

You should be able to wiggle the unit out, becareful not to spill brake fuid everywhere...

Plug time ;)

I contacted Dave (PITBULL) on these forums to get a rebuild kit, basically there are two types of kits you can get, I went with the full rebuild kit apposed to the half a*se couple of o-rings kit.. :haha:

But yeah, if you want to have a go at this, have a chat to Dave he can get you sorted with the correct gear.

The braided lines were brought through Gobbey, thumbs up for organising that mate!

Time to hook it apart, after a quick read of the destructions I was into full swing, the top part was first to come off (being the easy part) then it was a case of getting the Circlip out of the back of the primary cylinder and the guts came out.

For the secondary cylinder there is a screw sorta thing with an allen key head in it, unscrewing this then allowed the guts of the second cylinder come out.

Here's a shot off all the parts out on the bench, there really isn't a great deal to these. At this stage I was toying with the thought of polishing the master cylinder body.. but seriously couldn't be bothered having to polish another part on the car.

After some closer inspection I think I worked out why the brakes were some what dodgey! The little black line that runs along the body of the plunger is part of the seals.. not good.

New and old, New on the left and old on the right, the very top of this jigga got a kamakazi mission on the way out, I couldn't get the little mongrel out, so it recieved some heavy handed attitude with the o-ring pick... Good thing the rebuild kit came with replacement.

Right, time to wack it all back together, on one set of instructions it said lubricate with brake fluid and on another set of instructions it said not to lubricate... So I went with lubricate option. Basically assembly was a reversal of ripping apart, the secondary cylnder was pretty easy to put together as the screw on the end was just a matter of hold everything in it while get a turn on the thread.

The master cylinder on the other hand was just that little bit more challenging, although if I had a proper set of circlip pliers life would have been so much more easier.

Once I got it all together I had a glance at the brake fluid that came out of it, I was some what horrified to see the rubbish that had come out of the unit. I first thought it was something on the bench that it was sitting on, but once I had it off the bench it was more evident...

ok, brake lines, because I was so efficient I had already hooked to bottom part of the line off at the Callipers to allow the lines to drain over night.

The top join between the steel brake line and the rubber hose can some times be a mongrel to get undone, as previously, tap on the end of the spanner to jar the nut loose.

While putting the new lines in I started at the top and worked down, these clips that hold the top part in are a mongrel... esp at 10am on a sunday morning hung over like a bitch.
