Well, seeing as I'm on Holidays and it appears to be some sorta ritual for me to work on the commodore duhring Holidays I figured I better get these thermo fans in before my Holidays are all over.

First pic is of the Nissan thermo fan that was temporaly put in place (and has been a long temp job at that)

Second shot here is the AU thermo fans, I had a spare radiator sitting around so figured I'd use it as a template to make these fans fit... later that provided to be a dud idea.

Because the AU Fans were roughly the same size as the out side of the radiator I had to get creative with the hole saw to create space for the water inlets and outlets.

At this stage it was pretty straight forward, only small issue I saw presenting it's self was these huge gaps at the side which would allow the fans to draw fresh air around the radiator rather than through it.

Time to get creative, the old man had some plastic laying around left over from building a shower for his caravan, so I managed to make up something to fill the gaps, pretty rough but it does the job, bit of black paint and it'll be as good as new.

So it was ready to go into the car. I went to fit it in the slot and then realised I had a couple more problems to get around first.

1. Polution control jigga mounted in the way

2. Checker plate came back and bit me in the a*se <_<

So as you can see in this pic, I bent the bracket out of the way, I wasn't really keen on cutting it out due to the fact that it would leave some where for rust to start. The checker plate on the other hand got the short end of the stick, not much room but the jig saw fitted in ;)

So finally, a bit of cursing, bit of blood and guts... not really, but I think I did bruise my hand somewhere in the process. The Fans were fitted to the car, here's a before shot.

Now for any one toying with the idea of doing this mod I'd have to say the factory fan on a VN-VS V8 moves a lot more air than these. But you are not having to move a dirty great fan on the end of the water pump shaft. So you can choose which way you wanna go. The fans take a fair wack of power out of the system, the first time I went to turn them on I had a 20 amp fuse in the line and it blew not long after I had the fans going (3 - 4 seconds) So I stole the 25amp fuse out of the rear demister and that seems to have sorted the problem. The fans do drop the engine idle, so yeah they must be pulling the grunt.

If you want to fit these to your VN-VS V8 then really you only need to mod the fans to suit the radiator, it should fit like a dream. You will also have to move the polution controll jigga aswell, I moved mine up on the left hand side next to the radiator, bare in mind I don't have a battery, you may.

that polution control jigga is a charcoal canister dude.... some wierd device that your fuel tank breathes into to stop fuel vapours from escaping to the atmosphere... meh, who cares about em really

and did you think about VN-VS V6 thermo fan??? i think the radiators might be a fair bit different and the fans different between the models but i know the thermo in my ute draws tons of air through it when it kicks in...

Yeah, I started with one of those, only problem though is that I got 2 extra cylinders that push the water pump out into the way so it couldn't fit... even after hacking 4 inches off it :)

Well it blew the 25amp fuse, so it's now up to 30amp and hanging on now, The relay is a 40amp relay so I'd have to be getting close to the point of getting it right...lol
