right at the track so able to test the tune right there
Yeah I spose, but WOT is only like 5% of the work.
The real improvements are made in everyday duties. Which you won't really get from drag logs.

There are quite a few people around now with the Flashscan, HP Tuners, VCM suite etc. scan tools and software, no longer is it a workshop-specific thing, and we're beginning to brush off the myth which says tuning the humble LS series V8 is either difficult or in some way scary. Now I'd be very interested to know just why you're 'not a fan' of Steve Bennet from Oztrack's tunes...?

I've looked at his tunes, and I don't like his methods.
If you're concerned with WOT, then that's cool. But on the road you seldom get to WOT. To focus on that primarily will mean you're going to miss out on allot of potential.
As for tuning being difficult, you get out what you put in. Scary, sure it is. But as you learn, its all fairly obvious stuff.

Yes I can mate. Provided its a 4l60e in something using an LS1 PCM.
To do any tuning though, you need to purchase a license so I can access the PCM, Which I can sort out if need be. Data logging is a different. I can do that for nothing.

I have nothing but good things to say about Steve, I have had half a dozen or more update tunes done as Ive done more work and never been charged and the results have been exactly what I was after(good hwy economy and drivability). Easy to deal with to. I dont know anything about tuning itself, but havent heard of many unhappy customers. each to there own though

I've heard of lots
All depends who you speak to. But this isn't the point of the thread. I just offered my time/service to people for free. Oztrack is a well discussed on the internet, I'm sure people are capable of searching for it.

Costs money to use a track. Also can't guarantee much opportunity to get the information. One pass isn't enough.
Quiet road somewhere works better.
Also, you're more likely to get detonation under heavy load at low RPM. Another thing you're not going to see much of at a track.
This is what I mean when I say "WOT is '5%'" of the tune. WOT is the easiest part to get right.

secondly unless we get 60 people turn up we will likely get somewhere between 7 and 13 passes for the day. really depends on how many people turn up.
last one with the commodore club there was 70 something turn up and i got 9 passes but me and a couple of friends stopped racing for an hour to let car cool down and so we could watch some of the other cars run.
and yeah track costs, but if there already going to be there...
and a quiet road somewhere can become very costly if the road isnt quite as quiet as you thought...
edit, nevermind the first bit, quick google search found it

If there was already a track day on then yeah its feasible.
As for getting in trouble. We really wouldn't need to blow the speedlimit away.... by much. 98% of my tweaks are made from data obtained south of 100kmh. It all just depends on the load the car is under.

either way, would be keen to see what difference is made from a standard ls1 for both the setups you two have. who knows. might be able to find out soon.
