G'day everyone , new guy here...

I have a '92 V6 VP 6 seater wagon that I just blew the engine in (the trans was already sad ). I can get a bomb '93 VR wagon with a good engine and transmission cheap. Is this an easy swap? I am thinking it should be, though do I have to change the computer also? My biggest worry is the power/ economy button on the VR.

Thanks
Adrian

i think it should be as the motor from vn to vr are the buick v6 motor. if you take the motor/box out of the vr you will have to use the vr computer.
i dont know to much about whats in volved in the swap but there should be a fewgus on here that have done it and should help you out with every thing you wanna know!

The VR used the 4L60e transmission, electronically controlled. The VP used the hydraulic Turbo 700 (I think) transmission. The VR also had a crank angle sensor.

So in short, the whole lot (loom, ECU, BCM) needs to be swapped over. Where abouts are you? Shouldn't be too hard to pick up a cheap VN/VP.

Hi, I am in Sydney.

I didn't look for a VP or VN, it's a long story ,,,, I blew the donk about 250k from home on Sunday. I have lent my ute to my brother and needed to go to work the morning after arriving home on the train on Tuesday... My cousin had the VR and only wanted $300.00 for it, so I own it (regoed til march).

I cut my teeth on pre computer cars so please excuse my ignorance. When you say loom are you referring to just the harness from the motor to the computer behind the kick panel? ECU,
i know is Electronic Control Unit, so in this case is this the computer behind the kick panel? You have got me on BCM?

If I have to change more than the harness to the computer, the computer itself and maybe run a couple of extra wires for the transmission I will definitely change my mind on the project...

Thanks for the advice

Adrian
