my ute wont start, (355 stroker)- run for about 2 seconds then idle will drop until it dies, even if throttled, checked spark, new plugs, new leads, must be getting fuel because it starts unless its not getting enough fuel pressure to keep running?... changed fuel filter. even removed exhaust from cats incase its blocked. this has happened before and it started after awhile... but now nothing. any suggestions... fuel pressure test?

cheers
kermitt

your on the right track when you said about checking the fuel pressure, a knackered afm/map wont stop it from starting/running, trying to put the engine under load is another story though.

what happens if you put the boot in a bit as soon as you start it. (enough pressure to give about 3 or 4k rpm?
does it rev? does doing that prolong the length that it stays on for? or does it cause it to cut out instantly?

yeah when it starts you can put revs on it and it would rev, but after a couple of seconds even if your got throttle on or rev it would be as if you didnt and just drop until stalls...

unsure what fuel pumps in it, no doubt bigger, in my experience when the fuel pump packs it in it wont start at all, but i imagine if they get tired they might give enough pressure to start and run for a short period of time?, was thinking of taking the tank out and getting a new one in this weekend maybe, pain of a job if its not...

someone has mention it could be injectors?

Not sure but do they have an oil pressure switch, I think some efi setups wont let them run if there is no oil pressure/switch u/s.
just a thought???
