The idea for a commodore club was originally formed way back in early 2004 when someone started a thread on Street Commodores. That thread went for a number of pages and kept getting bumped which made everyone real popular with the mods. Not!

In mid-2004 it was decided that we'd have a meet to guage what sort of interest there was in joining the club. About 8 people turned up and a good discussion was had on what we should do. I volunteered to do a website, and we started talking domain names and what we should call ourselves - things just snowballed from there....

After registering TasCommodores.com and getting a website up, people soon started to come along and join the forums. There were a fair few members on the original site but the way it was setup wasn't all it could have been, so it was eventually completely overhauled to the site that we have today and it's evolution will continue.

Once the website was up, a meet was organised for October the 24th, 2004 at Tailrace Park in Riverside. We expected a few people to be there, but were blown away when we were met by over two dozen cars and something like 40 people, from as far away as Hobart and the north west coast. At this meeting we talked about getting the club officially registered as an incorporated association, how much membership fees should be, and elected office bearers, among other things. We also collected donations from prospective members to go towards registration fees for the club. Things looked pretty exciting from here!

We then went on to formalise our club rules and put in our application to become an incorporated association, which was accepted on the 10th of December 2004. Here is a copy of our certificate:

Since that time we have run a number of different cruises, participated in a number of different car shows and motorsport events, and continued to grow. Many new friendships have been made and it's my hope that this growth and friendship will continue for a long time to come as everyone continues to enjoy Australia's favourite car.
