Starting to look around at diff options for my vk sedan and im after some opinions.

Car currently has borg warner 3.23 standard diff, worth using if spooled and discs added?

Ideally i would like a VL turbo diff but they are hard to find in tassie.

I've heard mixed reports of the vn diff fitting, it is wider but some people say they have no issue's with panhard rod adjusted correctly? Any thoughts on this as they are cheap and easy to find.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Why not fitt a 28 spline spool and axles to the diff you already have?

Pretty sure VK borgwarner diffs are not as wide as VL or vn type, so apart from finding the 28 spline axles reasonably priced they then have to be machined.

Thats right Dave. The VK b/w diff is the same width as the salisbury diff in Commodores. I have read, people are using VN axles cut down and re splined. There is just enough spline on VN axles.

You'll find that you will be able to fit the VN diff in a vk, and it makes a good option for a rear disc upgrade, however there's a few things that do need to be noted!. using a vn diff, will set your rims out approximately 1" on either side. It's recommended to use an adjustable panhard rod, and you'll likely have to modify the rear of the driveshaft to get it all to fit. At the end of the day, i reckon it's all worth it and will be doing one of these conversions shortly by the looks of things. Cheers!

I have attempted fitting a vn diff in your old vh, the vn diff is 55 mm wider than the original diff. An adjustable panhard rod was fitted and it sat ok with the flared guards but rubs when driving. This happened with 18's so im not sure what it would be like with say 15 inch chasers. The only way i could see it done is if you were to put pump up shocks in the back and keep em stiff. I have a mate who has shortened a vn diff to fit an lx torana he could probably organise a cash job if u wanted me to follow up for u mate.

I already have the borgwarner diff(drum brake spec) but its a bit of mucking around to fit other axles to them.
Looks like the VN would ne a no go too as the VH had a big flare where the VK has only been lipped.
I'm looking for a disc brake vl diff as a temp measure as i can upgrade to VL 28 spline axles and VN type centre later if needed.

How hard are mini spools on say 25 spline VL axles?

I have been searching high and low for 6 months for a diff it aint an easy task these days. I remember mates sellin vl turbo diffs for 200 bucks now if u ask around for one u get laughed at. moonah wreckers had 1 disc to disc vk lsd but were asking 1200 for it and it came out of a burnt out car. there is a bloke in tunnack with a near complete v8 vh but am unsure if he still has it. I think it was advertised on gum tree for 500 bucks. finally found 1 on boost cruising. my last resort would have been rodney highland in wynyard he would have 1 for sure!

The vh would have a small salsibury which i dont reckon would be better than what i've got.
Thats why i'm thinking a standard vl diff and build it up later once everthing is sorted, probally with an lsd by the souns of things.
