Just wondering if anyone has moved there battery to there boot in there car?
I want to do it in my vk but not 100% sure on everything involved I know a car with it done and it's a VL calais but it's in melbourne so no help to me

So my questions are

1. Where should the power cable run? Inside(like speaker wire) or outside(like fuel lines) the car?

2. Is there any bad things/problems with doing this?

3. Anyone got pics to help me? And any info to help?

Thanks in advance

piece of piss, my cable runs through the middle of the car, just drilled a hole near the starter motor and popped the wire out there.

Also remember to run an earth strap from the battery to the chassis and then another from the chassis to the engine

Also use a decent gauge cable between the battery and the starter motor, it's a fair distance to get a lot of current.

Bigbird and I ran mine along the bottom of the passenger side door seals under the plastic cover that runs from front to back then up around under the computer and through the firewall and down to the starter motor.

I've ran the cable under the car and through the cabin in the past. Under the car is easier. When I had rego check on the HK the rego dude made me ditch the battery box as the battery has to vent into the atmosphere. Luckily I had a coupleof holes in the boot floor. As the others have said buy the biggest cable and best fittings you can afford.

I had to move the battery to the boot in the HR due to space reasons. I have 4GA amplifier power cable as my cable and it is only just big enough. When the motor is hot the resistance increases and the power available decreases. Bear in mind this is a low compression (8.8:1) motor too. High compression motors require more current to turn over.

It's not an uncommon mod, go and see an auto electrician and they will be able to sort you out for cable. Carswells up here have an orange cable with about a 12mm core, this has heaps of sheilding on it which will help with interference and wear.

Speaking of wear, grap a half-dozen grommets to suit the wire when your at the auto elec's. I cannot stress enough the importance of protecting the wire from sharp openings.

As AHK068 said, some transport people won't pass a battery in an unvented box. I overcame this by using a sealed battery. Link below.

Exide Orbital. One of the best sealed batteries you can buy. (Way better than Odyssey!)

Thanks guys for sharing the info and looks like I'll have to see what happens come rego time

I'll be sure to post up finished results in my calais thread when I get to it. Also putting the fuses in the glovebox for that tidy look in engine bay
