When I first got the VL, I didnt know much about cars. I looked on the net at the available kits, and shopped around until I found the cheapest kit. HUGE MISTAKE!
I've had nothing but trouble with the kit - it was packaged poor (no padding or anything, parts were actually hanging out holes in the box when I got it) to begin with. The kit itself was thin, had no bolts or supports to actually fit it to the car, and the fiberglass was pitted almost everywhere. The front bar required a lot of modification, the side skirts had to be lengthened by about 3 cm each, and the rear bar... well, most people have seen it, its very very dodgy.
The paint right round on the kit has crows feet on it, because of the poor quality its flexed and broken the paint.
Not only that, but when you get my car on the right angle, it looks like its all dented along where the rear bar wraps around the side of the car, and along the door panels. Look at pics of a genuine Aero, and its smooth - another example of poor quality dodgy fiberglass.
Its pretty sad because my paintjob is awesome, and the bodykit really lets my car down. Most people dont notice, which is lucky, but when Robbie squished the front of the car, I took the chance to replace my front bar with a quality item rather than fix the old one.
Slowly but surely I will replace the pieces of my kit with Sydney Special Vehicles items - they arent cheap, but they are quality (although still needed slight modification by my bodyworks). The thing is, every car is slightly different, so no matter how perfect the kit, if you want it to be spot on you'll probably need to adjust here and there anyway.
I guess it all depends on what you want - if you're one of these people after a perfect (or near perfect) great looking show car or show qualIty street car, don't buy cheap fiberglass, don't take the risk.
If you're one of these people who's happy to pay $1000 for a doors shut paint job that's going to look goodish from afar, but far from good, and you just want a kit for something different and you dont care if it looks a bit rough, then sure, go for the cheaper kits.
My replacement front bar nearly cost the same as I paid for my total kit originally - and I think it was more than worth it.
Oh, and on a side note - if I knew what I know now, I'd never have gotten a bodykit. I would have kept the standard bumpers. Saying that though my next car will probably have a kit!
