Just wondering, what is the best way to fit a set of 6x9's into a rear parcel shelf of a VX Commodore?

Do i just cut off the standard rear door speaker cable and solder on a new lead to the parcel shelf or am i best to remove the headunit and centre console? How hard is it to remove the centre console?

Do i need to remove the rear parcel shelf carpet and knock the speaker cut-outs out? Do i need to drill holes to fit the speakers?

I'm pretty sure that 6 x 9 will not fit in the parcel shelf without cutting it which isn't recommended and i think also illegal as it weakens it.
you could try spacers to lift them up out of the hole a bit but that would look ugly and would probably hit the window.

i personally would run new wires all the way to the head unit it is not hard to remove it , there shouldn't be a need to take out the center console just the head unit itself you just run the new wires under the dash and take the door seals off and run them up the side .

I think 6x9 May actually fit, you will have to take out the parcel shelf to get out the knock out pieces. With the wiring, i'd do exactly what Bradster said, the factory speaker wire isn't exactly great stuff.

im not to sure how different a vx parcell shelf is to a vs but i managed to put 6x9s in my vs pretty easy. the vs parcel shelf has speakers in it but i managed to fit the 6x9s in on a 45 degree angle... looks pretty good to. had to do a little cutting on the parcel shelf which isnt to hard.i had to grind something out but i cant remember what. might of been standard speaker brackets. as for cabling you should be able to run them up under the carpet pretty easy up the side of the car near the door.
