Hmm yeah might be that... Although I find it strange that it only does it in 3rd and 5th, thats what led me to believe it was in the box. It's been doin it for about 10,000 ks and hasn't really got any better or worse, its got me stuffed. Obviously a pretty common prob. tho.

Oh really?? Coz my car has a bit of a clutch shudder on downshifts too, which would make sense coz the friction plate wouldn't be located properly. Expensive to fix?? Was just about to book mine in to get gearbox coupling rubber replaced, maybe it's spigot in mine too....??

Hey guys, Im not from tassie, but my mum is does that count lol, nice to finally find a forum on this topic. I find I am having many of the same probs as some of you are talking about. originally my clutch was the problem as it would jump out at me after changinf gear, i.e it wouldnt come back up all the way and when I started accelerating it would just randomly jump out back and sometimes cause the back wheels to chirp up a little if in first or second. then I started get a grinding noise when changing occasionally, mainly on the changedown, sometimes when i was sitting at the lights with the clutch in it would do it whilst in gear, Ive had it driven by a someone at midas and straight away he said it was the syncros. It's pretty much stopped the grinding noise now but still the clutch leaps out at me every now and then letting out a rather large clunk noise and now when accelerating in 3rd or 5th (At least thats the only two gears I seem to notice it in it has also started to vibrate like some of you have reported, not a harsh vibration but u can feel it and I feel the more I rev it out the more chance there is that it is going to fall apart on me.
Has anyone got any ideas? ive read through this topic and found a few helpful answers, and I'm kinda resigned to the fact that the synchros are stuffed. anyone know what they would cost to repair? also what's the odds I need a new clutch too?? Any idea of anyone in melbourne that can repair the synchros at a decent price? rear main seal leaks like a seive too, but thatll have to be replaced anyway obviously
appreciate any assistance
